Dorothy D. Rupe Memory Care Program at Santa Barbara City College

The Arthur N. Rupe Foundation also supports Santa Barbara City College’s new Memory Care Program, a semester length series of courses that concentrates on caring for individuals with Alzheimer’s Disease and other forms of dementia. The program consists of two classes, Memory Care Basics and Compassionate Communication for Caregivers, and is intended for professional and family caregivers.

The focus of the Dorothy D. Rupe Memory Care Program is on providing person-centered care and improving the quality of life for the memory impaired older adult as well as the caregiver. Training will include hands-on experience in several local memory care centers. Funding from the Arthur N. Rupe Foundation will be used for instructional support, student enrollment costs, textbooks, and uniforms.
